Graphic designer to support science communication


What we are looking for

For the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Comission, we are looking for a graphic designer (Artistic Director/Visual concept developer) with 5 years of experience to work with us as an intra-muros PXE, ideally living close to the JRC site in Ispra (VA). We would also consider candidates living in Brussels.

The JRC visual communication team supports the JRC communication strategy by translating in powerful visuals the knowledge produced by the JRC and its key initiatives and activities. It produces a vast range of visual products, templates and guidelines in three main domains: graphic design, publications and audio-visuals. The JRC visual communication team works on various visual projects, both for online and offline use, such as visuals for websites and social media, infographics, posters, leaflets, publications layout etc.

Key responsibilities

You will will be mainly required to:

  • Work within the JRC Visual Communication team to quickly create visuals, from initial concept to final assets for digital/social media and print.
  • Conceptualise and design graphic visuals, infographics, report layout and/or data visualisations starting from complex documents

The candidate will be part of a dynamic and motivated team, based partly in Ispra and partly in Brussels.

Job qualifications

We look for a graphic designer with at least 5 years of experience with the following skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic design or similar disciplines
  • A good knowledge of English (B2), both oral and written
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly high knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Good knowledge of other software for graphic design (Adobe Premiere and/or After Effect preferably), photography and video.
  • Solid command of foundational design principles, such as typography, color, layout and templates.
  • Good knowledge of social media styles, trends, knowledge about accessibility and sizing guidelines
  • Experience in branding/corporate design
